On the Move Official Moving Checklist
Whether you’re relocating across town or across the province, this Moving Checklist will help you stay organized. Let’s make your move seamless!

RESIDENTIAL

6 – 8 Weeks Before the Move
Book your move with On the Move. Set the moving date and communicate it to whomever needs to know about it. Create an inventory of contents making the move. Notify service providers of moving date (internet, phone, utilities, etc.) .

2 – 4 Weeks Before the Move
Use your free packing supplies provided by On the Move to start packing non-essential items OR schedule packing through On the Move

2 Weeks Before the Move
Label all boxes by room
Start notifying change-of-address for:
1. Friends/familyBank(s)
2. Provincial ID (license, health card etc.)
3. Credit card companies, loyalty programs
4. If required, mail forwarding services
Book new utility or service provider appointments

Move week
Pack up all remaining contents Do a walk-through to ensure you’re not missing anything. Keep essential tools and documents handy in a “Move Day Kit.
Commercial

Book your move with On the Move. Set the moving date and communicate it to the moving coordinator. Create an inventory of equipment, furniture, etc. Back up all company data (cloud + physical). Schedule IT infrastructure assessment for the new office. Notify service providers (internet, phone, security, etc.). Update business licenses/permits with the new address. Plan new space layout.

2 – 4 Weeks Before the Move
Order new equipment or furniture if needed. Set up utilities at the new location (Wi-Fi, electricity, HVAC, etc.) Update your website with new address info (contact page, footer, map). Change your Google Business Profile and other directories. Design new signage or branding for the new space. Inform clients and partners via email or newsletter.

2 Weeks Before the Move
Begin packing non-essential items.
Label all boxes by team/department.
Test new internet + phone lines at the new office.
Coordinate server migration (if applicable).
Prepare change-of-address notifications for:
1. Clients
2. Banks
3. Vendors
4. Mailing services
Plan a digital/soft launch of the new space

Move week
Pack up all remaining equipment securely. Disconnect and safely store servers, computers, and monitors. Do a walk-through of both the old and new office. Assign staff tasks for move-in day (unpacking, setup, etc.). Keep essential tools and documents handy in a “Move Day Kit”.

Move Day
Supervise movers and direct placement of furniture/equipment. Plug in and test computers, servers, and networking immediately. Ensure security systems are active and functioning . Provide lunch/snacks to the team to keep morale high! Celebrate small wins and share updates on social media.
